(born 1960). Director of PGP, a Norwegian Center of Excellence (2006-); Professor of Petrology, University of Oslo (93-).

Education: BSc (82) in a combination of chemistry, geology, physics and mathematics; MSc in geology, Mineralogical-Geological Museum, University of Oslo (86); PhD, Department of Geology, University of Oslo (90).

Employment: Scientific Assistant, University of Oslo (85-87), PhD grant from the Norwegian Research Council (87-90), Post Doc grant from the Norwegian Research Council (90-91). Awarded the Odd Hassel Research grant from the Norwegian Research Council to stay at the University of Bristol (91-93). Leader of the Strategic University Programme "Fluid Rock Interactions" (97-01). Organizer of the annual Kongberg seminar - an exclusive, process-oriented, cross-disciplinary, international conference - since 1994.

 Output: He has published more than 90 papers in refereed international journals, and has given more than 70 talks at international meetings and institutions over the last 4 years (30 as invited or keynote speaker). Edited two books: Jamtveit, B. and Yardley, B. W. D. (eds.), Fluid flow and transport in rocks: Mechanisms and effects (Chapman and Hall, London, 319 pp, 1996) and Jamtveit, B., and Meakin, P., (eds) Growth, dissolution and pattern formation in Geo-systems (Kluwer Academic, Dordrecht, Holland, 1999). Guest editor of "Fluids in metamorphism", published in Elements, vol. 6, No. 3. 

 Research interest: Fluid-rock interaction, fluid migration and its coupling to chemical reactions and fracturing, metamorphism, pattern-forming processes in the Earth systems.

Recognitions: Received the Hans and Helga Reusch legacy (85), and the Reusch medal from the Norwegian Geological Society (93). Elected member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (96) and the Royal Society of Norway (01). Fellow (project leader) at the Centre of Advanced Studies at the Norwegian Academy of Science (00-01). Received the Fritjof Nansen Prize for outstanding research within Science and Medicine, from the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (11). Fellow of the Geochemical Society/European Association of Geochemistry (2012).

Member of American Geophysical Union, Mineralogical Society of America, European Association of Geochemistry, and the Norwegian Geological Society.
