Fully Intgrated Approach
Our Center of Excellence will carry out interdisciplinary research with a fully integrated theoretical, experimental, computer simulation and field-based approach with top level competence in all fields. We have:
- An existing and smoothly running infrastructure with computer facilities established during previous activities in Strategic University Programs.
- In house access to fully equipped laboratories for physical experiments, geochemical analyses, nano-scale surface characterization, high resolution CCD-cameras, high dynamic range digital video cameras, microscopes, computerized force measurements, apparatus for measurement of the adhesion of cells and of protein molecules to surfaces in vitrio.
- Access to highly rated Geo-chronological (U-Pb TIMS and 40Ar/39Ar) and paleomagnetic laboratories.
- Our own supercomputer (a Scali Cluster System) for 3-D geodynamic modeling.
- A collaborative agreement with the `Simula Research laboratory' at -Fornebu focused on visualization of research products for scientific and publicity purposes.
- Extensive experience in carrying out field work in remote areas under a variety of conditions (Antarctica, Greenland, Spitsbergen, Siberia, South Africa, India.)

Geologists and physicists have met in the field before: Albert Einstein and Victor Goldschmidt having soup and discussing geology on an excursion ca 1930. PGP aims beyond the 'soup stage' of cross disciplinary research.
