PGP a Norwegian Center of Excellence Physics of Geological Processes, PGP, is one of Norway’s Centers of Excellence, CoE, funded by the Norwegian Research Council in 2003. Our host institution is the University of Oslo. PGP is a cross-disciplinary research centre, involving numerous physicists and Earth scientists.
Mission: Obtain a fundamental and quantitative understanding of the complex patterns and processes of the Earth.
Main challenge: Establish an adequate conceptual framework to deal with the Earth’s complex materials and processes.
Strategy: Establish a new cross-disciplinary science centre at the interface between physics and geology where geological processes are approached by integrated field-, experimental-, theoretical,- and computer modelling studies.
Educating students: PGP has its own master programme and has educated numerous Master and PhD students in Geology, Physics and intergrated Geology-Physics projects. Our students are attractive on the job marked, and find jobs in the industry as well as in the academics. On the web page "People > Students", is a list showing where our previous students where employed after their studies at PGP.
