Education

The educational activities at the centre include administrating and teaching the master program, running a graduate school for Ph.D. students, and contributing to the teaching activities at the institutes of Physics and Geology.

A dynamic research environment thrives when researchers at all levels cooperate. Postdocs, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students form the core of any sustainable basic research effort, and researchers of different nationalities are an asset for effective educational programs.

Master in Physics of Geological Processes

The centre hosts a two-year master program in the Physics of Geological Processes. The program provides a high-quality, cross-disciplinary education that will produce students that will be attractive for academia and industry. The program is based on the underlying principle that the most effective cross-disciplinary collaborations are rooted in the excellence of the collaborators in the respective fields. In order to ensure a sufficient level of specialization, and at the same time build an interdisciplinary activity, students with Bachelor degrees in Physics, Geology, or Numerical Methods are offered a common program with specializations within their respective fields.

Integrating courses

The center has developed a series of new courses to support master and PhD students, and to provide a common, quantitative platform of methods and understanding for researchers at the center. The center has developed a portfolio of courses to achieve integration of both master-students, PhD students, and researchers. The courses include three introductory courses for the master students, Fys-Geo4100, 4200, and 4300, two courses the provide an introduction to some relevant numerical methods, Fys-Geo4510 and Fys-Geo4520, and two courses the provide an introduction to the physics of disordered materials (Fys4460) and nano- and micro-scale processes (Fys4470). All courses rely on active use of numerical laboratories in order to provide the students with hands-on experience on problems and processes.

Graduate school

PGP was awarded the status of a graduate school for Ph.D. students. The center provides Ph.D. level courses and an integrated training environment for Ph.D. students.

Former students

Our master and PhD students are attractive on the job-market and find jobs in academia, research institutions and industry. We provide an overview of the beginning jobs of our students over the last few years.
